Flexible Format
Since 1999, Downward Dog has been offering comprehensive training and support programs for aspiring and existing teachers. Our program consists of three modules, each 100 hours in duration. Modules I and II together form our 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification program. Module III offers more advanced training for students wishing to further their studies.

We offer Module I and Module II in both Weekends and Intensive formats throughout the year. Our flexible format means that you can choose any combination of Modules I and II to complete your 200 hour certification. For example, you may attend Module I in Toronto and join us for Module II in Mexico. Or, start your Teacher Training program in Mexico and then attend Module II here in Toronto. If you are looking to get away for the month, please join us for Modules I & II in Mexico!

These are just a few of the options available to you. Check your calendar and work out a program that suits your schedule. If you have any questions contact Joy, our program advisor, for assistance at tel. 416.703.3558 or admin@downwarddog.com.

Faculty

Ron Reid has been practicing yoga for 25 years and teaching since 1989. In 1996 after practicing Ashtanga yoga for two years he traveled to India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. Ron seeks to make the practice of yoga interesting and enjoyable and sees it as being integral to a state of well-being, approaching teaching in an inspired, informed and non-dogmatic way. He places the needs of the students ahead of the demands of the practice. Ron teaches in a variety of settings (workshops, teacher training, improv and other exploratory classes), as well as pranayama, and yoga lab workshops across Canada, the U.S. The UK and Europe.

Diane Bruni first discovered yoga in 1979. Over the years she has studied several styles of yoga, including Ashtanga which she currently practices and teaches. In 1983 Diane graduated from the Kikkawa Shiatsu College. Having worked full time as a hands-on healer, her knowledge of the human body and its many interconnected layers adds an interesting dimension to her teaching. In 2000 Diane hosted sixty-five 30-minute yoga sessions for Breathing Space Yoga, which continues to air in the U.S. and New Zealand. Diane opened the Downward Dog Yoga Centre with Ron Reid in 1997.

Marla Meenakshi Joy traveled to India in 1988 to study meditation and the Philosophy of the Vedas with many learned masters in the Himalayas. She is a certified meditation and Yoga philosophy teacher from the International Meditation Institute in India. Marla currently teaches Meditation, Yoga philosophy, Sanskrit, Chanting, Restorative and Ashtanga yoga, and has been teaching in teacher training programs since 2000, in Canada, The UK and Europe. She also leads Kirtan with her partner Ron Reid and their band SWAHA.

David Gellineau began practicing yoga in 1996. Before teaching yoga, he spent 12 years working in the Social Services field. After studying Ashtanga Yoga for 5 years he traveled to India to deepen his practice and knowledge of the Ashtanga system, as well as other forms of yoga. He continues to deepen his practice and understanding of this system with the help of his principal teacher Ron Reid, a daily practice, and by making regular visits to India. David is the co-director of Downward Dog in the Beach and teaches classes around Toronto and internationally. He has jointly developed a unique style of partneryoga and is the co-author of the book The Greatest Yoga Tips in the World.

Ray Long MD FRCSC is a board certified orthopedic surgeon and the founder of Bandha Yoga. Ray graduated from The University of Michigan Medical School with post-graduate training at Cornell University, McGill University, The University of Montreal and Florida Orthopedic Institute. He has studied hatha yoga for over twenty years, training extensively with B.K.S. Iyengar and other of the world's leading yoga masters.

Riki Richter began studying Pilates in 1992 and in 1995 trained to become a teacher at Pilates Downtown. She has been studying Ashtanga at Downward Dog since 1997 where she completed her Ashtanga training. Riki is co-owner of Mind the Body studio.
